    The Comparison Effect of Ciprofloxacin and Cotrimoxazole in Infection Prophylaxis during Chemotherapy Treatment of Multiple Myeloma Patients

    Introduction: Infections are the main cause of mortality in half of the patients suffering multiple myeloma and disrupt the treatment process. Administration of the best prophylactic antibiotic with a minimum of complications is of prime importance. Aim of this study was to compare two antibiotics of Co-trimoxazole and Ciprofloxacin with different functional mechanisms. Material and Method: 72 new patients suffering from multiple myeloma were admitted in this clinical trial study. The patients were divided into two equal groups by simple randomization. The first group received 500 mg ciprofloxacin capsules once daily, and the second group received co-trimoxazole tablets at a dose of 160/400 daily for 4 weeks.
