    Bioresorbable Plate Systems for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: A Review

    Stable fixation is required for uncomplicated bony healing and optimum remodelling in maxillofacial osteosynthetic procedures. Although traditional titanium plates and screws for firm fixation in craniofacial procedures are regarded the gold standard, Various maxillofacial osteosynthetic operations, such as orthognathic surgery, maxillofacial fractures, and reconstructive surgery, typically use bioresorbable plates and screw systems. The palpability, mutagenic consequences, and interference with imaging of titanium plates limit their usage, which may necessitate eventual removal; the use of a biologically resorbable material overcomes these limitations.
